If you have 120 volts available, by all means that is the cheapest way to go.

But if not, and you have lots of cloudy days, use a 24 volt panel or two 12 volt panels in series. Put that into a power point tracking charge controller to charge a 12 volt battery.

For a 6 joule fencer, two 50 watt panels should do the job, even on cloudy days. but if you were concerned, two 100 watt panels danged sure would.

It may not be cheap, but it can easily be done.

And for snowy days, put those panels on a mount that will allow tipping panels straight up & down. Snow won't stick & with sun reflection off snow, panels will charge about the same as if pointed straight at the sun.
