Somewhere I read there was a population of pigs or warthogs in Africa that does not show the normal response to the virus. Seems like there was a study being done on some island where they were basically introducing improved white lines and these wild pigs side by side and giving them all the virus in an attempt to document how fast they die and how their immune system reacts to it along the way. The hope was they could simply gene splice their resistance into a modern improved pig line to spread throughout the commercial population. Haven't heard anything more about it and the project could have failed for all I know.

Would be interesting to see how the smaller niche market populations and show pigs handle not being able to afford to put the gene directly into their populations. Perhaps they would all ignore their decades of "purebred" breeding in an attempt to obtain it similar to how most of the beef breeds let Angus in to take advantage of CAB.
