I run a disc mower with out conditioner but have topping shoes and cut a little higher than my neighbors. My hay actually dries faster than neighbors as I am not interfering with the natural capillary action of the plant. Last years baleage was on the dry side and it was cut one day baled the next.
This years plan is to cut in the morning and bale/wrap later the same day.


If you want higher sugar content (and its not that hard to do) you might want to consider cutting in the evening and baling mid next day.
Gaining a couple % higher sugar content (easy in grass hays that aren't real mature) will bump up your feed value nicely.
