jackson county WI
In my area the winter kill on alfalfa is terrible. New seeding looks good if it caught last year in the dry weather, the 2 year old stuff is so-so. Seeding older than that is 50-100% dead. I had a foot of regrowth going into winter and it didn’t matter. In Wisconsin around the I-29 hwy it looks as though it was sprayed with round up. Nov-dec weather was not good on alfalfa. In the few years I have sold seed I might sell 50-100 bags alfalfaa year, this year I have sold over 700 bags.

That being said there will be a lot of hay that will be grassy and yield half of what it should. But last year was dry and very short supply and with hay bringing north of $100 bale or planting corn-beans at a guaranteed loss most everyone is sticking with the poor hay for the year.
