Central Kansas | Pulled up yield map from last year to do some comparisons. Two crops harvested soybeans and winter wheat. The soybeans were in the southwest corner. What a difference a year makes, Last winter into spring we were pretty dry. Summer was no godsend just got some timely rains in August for the beans. The yield map this year I predict will be opposite the yield map from last year. Too much rain.
We started this project to determine if we had areas large enough and poor enough to abandon and plant row crops on. We were going to cancel the crop insurance on wheat and plant soybeans or sorghum. The flights began after the cancelation date and wet weather would have prevented any tillage or spraying anyway. Just looking now at this new data and hoping to find some useful information for the future. The really poor spots are poor stands and about a third of this field was replanted in the middle of October. I don't think there is or was anything management wise that we could have done to improve this wheat crop.
