I haven't done anything like this in years as I find it easier just to pull yesterday's backup copy.
I recall in the distant past that there were utilities that specialize in repairing or recovering data from a file.
There is a manual method to make some changes to Excel files with the xlsx extension. Basically, change xlsx to zip and you can unpack components of the data. I have in mind you might be able to create a clean xlsx file and change its extension as well. I recall, but have never tested, that you might be able to switch components into the corrupted file. You'll probably lose stuff like formatting, but might be able to recover the actual data.
Again, that's all guess work on my part, not from any personal experience.
