The 12 and 16 rows were available as ground drive planters -- I don't think the 24 row came in ground drive. If you start with a ground drive planter, then you don't need a pro700 to fold/unfold because they will have an independent switch box for fold functions. If you start with a ground drive, then you are free of the pro700 and you can add any brand monitor/control system that you like. If you get a planter that is set up for pro700, then you will always need it for folding.

My 16 row 1250 started as a ground drive planter and we use a 20/20 system for seed monitoring, hyd drive, and row clutches. I have two PP hyd drive motors on my 12 row. You can pick up used Precision Planting parts pretty cheaply from people that are switching to electric drives. PP has very good installation instructions on their website and you can download your own software updates, etc.
