Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | Going with single row sections is generally not recommended unless using RTK and then the outer rows are usually tied together making 10 sections out of a 12 row planter. The reason being drift might cause an outer section to shut off when it should be on. This is more likely with SF1 than higher priced correction arrangements.
Having a missing row across the field in various places would not be pretty.
If going with Tru-Count air clutches, a clutch is needed for each row. A valve box consists of a plastic box that has one Inlet from the air compressor and splits to four air valves internally. This means each valve box can handle four sections. The output from each valve can be split as necessary to feed each clutch in the section.
A 12 row planter with 4-3 row sections would need only one valve box. A 12 row planter with 6-2 row sections would need 6 air valves so two valve boxes would be needed but only two of the four would be used in the second box. If going with 10-12 sections, three valve boxes would be needed.
