Mini Split AKA Ductless unit is inexpensive and easy to install. There will be a line set on the outside of the house that can be enclosed in plastic duct. Depends on how you want it to look, and it will certainly add value to the house.

If you go that route, stay with Daiken or Mitsubishi. The old American brands are now all made in China from Chinesium and don't hold up. You can buy either on Amazon, a few hundred dollars in tools and you are good to go. A ductless to heat and cool that room would be $1200-1500, figure $2000 with tools you need which would be a vacuum pump and a manifold.

I learned how to do it watching Youtubes, very easy. Short version:

1. Make all the connections
2. Purge lines with Nitrogen (optional but recommended, a friend used the canned air for cleaning computers)
3. Pump down the lines to evacuate any air remaining
4. Open the valves on the outside unit to let the refrigerant charge the lines
5. Power it up and use it

There's more details such as the required electrical disconnect outside and by code you must have a 120vac electrical outlet within 25' for service work, but it's really pretty easy to do yourself.
