I can see why you think that, but it really isn't a problem. Small stuff, you just put towards the front and it's fine, anything I'm worried about, like a welder on wheels, I just throw a strap over it. But stuff needs strapped down even with a tailgate because I wouldn't want something that weighs 2000# slamming into the tailgate. But I have never lost anything out of a truck in my whole life. With the exception of pop cans that get sucked out the top while pulling a gooseneck stock trailer. But that is for a different reason and I've learned real quick to keep garbage out of my truck bed.
