I was told that with the border closings in China to control the disease, there are areas where pork is literally worth zero. So smuggling pork abroad is a desperate attempt to cash flow, and unlikely an attempt to spread the disease elsewhere. And on that front, I was also told that since ASF isn't avian, and the vast majority of US production is confinement, it would be unlikely for ASF to wreak havoc on the US hog herd. China still has something like 2/3 of their production coming from mom & pop operations. Health officials are pretty confident in the life cycle of the disease, so all feed coming from China will sit until well after the disease should burn itself out in those types of products should it have been present.
