Subject: Bottom Line Losses of Some Companies in 1981

Stearns County, Minnesota

I was cleaning out old papers from the early 80’s and came across this edition of the Des Moines Sunday Register, dated May 23, 1982.  The chart below shows the bottom line losses in 1981 of some companies.  It is interesting, that of the 9 companies listed, 6 are no longer in business.  The prime rate on November 1976 was 6.25%.  On December 1980, the prime rate was 21.50%.  The prime rate did not come down to 6% until after 9/11.  On September 18, 2001, it was 6%.
