Virginia | I have a windrower, big sq baler, rakes, tenders nice hay barns the whole 9 yards. For the last 3-4 years milk prices have sucked. This equals hay prices suck. Dairy market used to be a good place to send hay, but they have no money now....
I switched to soybeans and that is feast or famine also.
I don't know what the future holds, but it's pretty damn bleak in my opinion.
If you must try it, I'd grow a good grass blend, or pure Timothy, brings as much if low potassium as alfalfa and nowhere the input cost.
Remember though a year like last year you couldn't make hay for all the rain, but crops grew like mad, it just wouldn't stop raining to get them out the field.
