Subject: RE: What size motor for carry in sweep auger?

Leesburg, Ohio
On all our bins from 18' diameter up to 36', we run single phase 1.5hp motors wired for 110volt, and have had one of those motors (one that gets used on many bins) for at least 25 years. The bigger bins have power sweeps.

You keep talking about adjusting speed with pulley size, but as another reply said, you will be limited in doing that because you can only go so small on the motor pulley, and you can't really go any bigger than standard on the sweep pulley because it will hit the floor or sweep support in the center sump.

I think using a VFD to run a 1.5 or 2 hp motor on 208/230 volts would be ideal for your needs feeding a grinder. You can get a VFD to run either on single or on three phase, and some with run both. One that small should only cost $2-300?
