Central Ga | 5 acre inches is not a lot of water in the scheme of things, but 5 well timed inches can sometimes make a staggering difference in yields, especially with corn. The larger the pivot and the closer to a full circle it makes will lower your cost per acre initially. Here electric pumps are preferable to diesel for a number of reasons if three phase power is conveniently located. Here an acre inch will cost us about $7 in just power costs alone. All of the brands are probably ok. Valley is the oldest in the business and there is an excellent dealer three miles from our farm. I rarely wait more than a few hours for response to a service call. I would price Valley, Zimmatic, and Reinke. If they are comparably priced I would go with the closest, reputable dealer. My preference is Valley for the reasons I stated. You should also consider replacement cost coverage when insuring. Good luck.
