Subject: RE: Sometimes things work out

NE Iowa
My heifers start to cycle as early as 5 months of age. I know because I have had them give birth at 14 months of age. If I left the bull run with the heifer calves until 10.5 months of age I would likely have 100% of them bred. Blood testing requires them to be bred at least 21 days so you need wait 3 weeks to pull the blood samples. At that point you could have heifers 5-6 months bred. Aborting heifers that far along is not a good plan. Your working facilities are in your shed so weather shouldn't be as much of an issue. If they were outside in a 4' snow drift then I understand.
