Virginia | Local sheriff's deputy just this past week was exposed to illict fentanyl while doing a traffic stop. The vehicle had expired registration and the registration was for another vehicle. The driver, a Mr. Hodges, was driving on a suspended license and had 11 previous felony convictions.
After talking to Hodges the deputy had suspected there may be drugs in the vehicle. His police dog sniffed and alerted. Several bags were found and the dog hit on one. The deputy found a container, opened it, and a powdery cloud formed. The deputy experienced coughing, dizziness, and burning in his chest and was rushed to a local hospital and later released. The powder tested positive for heroin and fentanyl.
Meth and marijuana were also found along with three firearms, with one of the firearms being in Hodges waistband. Hodges was charged with six felonies and was under investigation by the ATF.
So, please don't get upset the next time you get pulled over. The officer was correct in pulling you over with expired tags and asking questions.
