SW Wisconsin | Supply and demand for hay is broken. For supply and demand to work you need many buyers, many sellers, and a low entry barrier. We have the first two for hay, but it’s an expensive business to get into. Guys got out because it didn’t make money, now it would make money hand over fist if you had the equipment and the land seeded down. Plus guys are lazy: I had one farmer tell me that he’d never grow hay no matter how much money he could make, because July and August are his fishing time. | |
