northeastern Ohio | My freestall barn is the same open ridge. Do you have open eves to allow air to flow up? I've never had a problem with much snow. We had 6" one day this winter and only had a dusting on the center drivethru.
I had a heifer barn with a closed ridge. It would rain from condensation on the underside of the roof in the winter. Roof rusted out and I changed the design to an "overshot" ridge by adding a 2x6 onto the trusses. No more condensation. No snow problems and heifers are much healthier with better airflow. I've seen some guys put a curtain on the overshot opening, but I haven't seen a need for it as long as it is open to the opposite of the prevailing wind.
I've seen some open ridge freestall barns with a capped chimney to keep rain and snow out.
