gavogel: Steiger Man has it about half right. The idea (I think) was to take customers in sort of half steps up, so the new series kinda split the old series. 7700 was higher capacity than the 105. 6600 was between 105 and 95. 4400 between 55 - 95, etc. If I'm building combines, I don't want farmers trading 105s off for 6600s. You asked about early 6600, so probably capacity was about as stated- somewhat less than a 105, though later 6600s got the 404 engine and probably would have been about a match for your average 105 by that time, maybe better.

Of course, somewhere there's a guy who absolutely loves his topped up 105 with 404 diesel and swears it will outdo that clapped out 7700 with the 362 gasser on the other side of the county. There's a guy on YouTube mostly growing deer corn who put a big cornhead on his 95. Your mileage may vary...
