Deere already uses the "sleeve and two hose clamps" system on 1870s (see image below). I wouldn't expect a lot of inherent resistance to the idea.

I don't see hose clamps as a problem; use SS clamps with hex heads. I chopped the bells off my 1895 years ago...hated them. IMO, the "sleeve and two hose clamps" system is FAR better than the standard "bell and barb" idea.

Also, if you moved the bend so that it is midway on the SS tube, you could drill a hole for the lock screw in both ends. That would let a single part serve as left or right hand. The sleeve would cover the unused lock hole on top of the tube.

Also, I've always thought the steel tubes are plenty long. But you would probably have to make the SS tubes the same length, to avoid requiring secondary hose replacement.
