Northeast Nebraska
The Corps is currently doing a study about the sedimentation of the Lewis & Clark Lake. The majority of the sedimentation comes from the Niobrara River, coming from the sandhills of Nebraska. Dredging the lake has been part of the study, but the cost would be huge. I think they were even studying the type of sediment to see if it would be suitable for use in fracking for the North Dakota oil fields, but with the low oil prices that avenue may have disappeared. Removing 5.1 million tons each year just maintains the lake to what it is right now. Unless they find a way to slow down the sediment inflow I think it will be a long uphill and losing battle.
