WC Mn/Dakotas | Yes that is pretty accurate from what i have read. From an irrigation standpoint they say et is based on leaf area index. And LAI and et supposedly maxes out at 2.9 (i think it is) and supposedly any population over about 13,000 the leaves will grow to 2.9. I have a hard time believing that 13k pop uses the same total water as 33k.
So then you need sensors that can track active root depth to know how much of a soil profile you can calculate water holding capacity from. This last year our corn root depth was 12-18" deep. In 2016 roots were 28-36" deep.
There is alot of research on the irrigation perspective of et and lai, so im sure that is probably accurate. But there must also be interactions with oxygen in soil, plant available nutrients, and soil health etc because 13k and 33k are two different yield environments.
Ultimately population, water, and nutrition need to jive. | |
