WC MN | I would go with corn. As others have mentioned be sure to put down starter in furrow. You mention lighter soils, that would make the beans more vulnerable to drought stress during pod fill. Soybeans root down much shallower than corn so that is also a factor. The black ground will warm up quickly and it will probably be some of the first ground you can get on so that favors corn again.
The last few years we have had good moisture in July and August so that would eliminate much of the yield drag after sugar beets. Historically, however, we get drier in the late summer and that can turn 50 bushel looking beans into 30 Bushel beans pretty quick with lack of moisture. In my experience corn will not be affected as dramatically due to late season dryness.
