Thumb of Michigan | I think the "right answer will be tough- "here" knives in any configuration, if theres residue involved at all, just suck.
For planting, in very high residue conditions, I won't bore you with everything we tried and scrapped. We used a Rawson 1" or 2" coulter followed by a coil tine applicator he came up with that had an injector nozzle on the end of it. Low pressure with a J Blue pump.
For side dress N, we used a plow coulter with a high pressure stream nozzle squirting stuff into the coulter slot. Never had a lot of issues keeping stuff lined up, and believe we got over 99% of the product down the slot. No knife.
