Subject: Coulters or knives?

Texas Panhandle
I am wanting to buy a liquid applicator for a couple of reasons.

Current one. (could be temporary if I get soil in better shape). I have some fields where I skip drilled wheat for a cover crop to plant cotton in. Cotton needs a firm seedbed so I don't want to striptill in that strip. I have really low phos levels and would like to get some into the ground.

Also I believe I would use it some on really low water irrigation cotton and some dryland cotton if it rained to sidedress.

So my question is, how much 10-34-0 will a coulter rig get into the ground? If too much is laying on top I might as well broadcast, and I don't think that will address my needs. Also, how much danger is there in planting on top of the coulter trench if we have trouble trying to plant to the side of it? We are using RTX and RTK but there can be other issues as we plant in a circle.

Do I need to use a knife? I feel like that would loosen up my seed bed too much.. Are there some brands that are better and some to stay away from? Can't justify new at this point.

Thanks
