sleepy hollow , wi
big jim ,quantum and sd2000 from valmetal are the options. first 2 are discontinued so used is your only option for those.no matter which of these three you look at if the operators dont pay attention to when filling and unloading youre gonna have headaches. big jim had ring very close to the wall with 1 center cable and 8 or so 3/16 cables to hold up drive ring depending on silo diameter. good dependable unloader lots of them still running around the country.quantum was too heavy for its own good. its a 3500 lb unloader hanging off 3 cables and when it gets to hard or frozen feed it pounds like crazy. the thinking was heavier would keep it from bouncing .when they were new they were ok . of the 7 i put in only 2 are still running. sd2000 is very similar to big jim but it hangs on 3 cables. good machine. 4x4 tunnel is best underneath ,around here most common is a barn cleaner for feed removal. ive unplugged hundreds of blocked holes because of everything from conveyor malfunction to steel silo doors getting torn off and shoved down hole. hole formers breaking off during filling, unloaders being buried under ten feet of feed. it all comes back to the operator and maintainance. about the hole, it will act like a chimney you will have some rot and there will be air penetration sideways no matter how good you put up your feed .any of the three will pack feed in a silo at up to 40 lb per cu ft .im a jamesway service guy i have been around many of these in 40 years of service work. we use a big jim everyday ourselves installed in 1975.
