NW IN | Big...dumb...animals.
Checked one Monday night. No dilation, a little udder, due Friday, I say OK and leave her out for the night.
Tuesday morning at 530 I can see cow with string hanging out, can't find calf. Turn barn lights on and can see where cow laid down in mud and pushed calf out in the ONLY water hole in my miserable pasture. 15 feet from fresh bedding. Shake my head, hang it in disbelief, walk up to house after dragging dead, drowned calf up to barn.
