Northeast Iowa | We haven't milked for more than 40 years, but the best milk inspector story came from around that time or before. A father-son team milked cows and had some hogs, too. The sows would run loose in the barnyard sometimes. The inspector's report mentioned the hogs and instructed the farmer to keep the hogs separate from the milking herd, or there would be future violations. His report had to be posted in the barn for the next month or so.
The father wasn't a big fan of the inspector, so he added his own commentary to the report (in pen, so it couldn't be erased by the milk hauler): "We don't milk the sows. We can tell 'em apart." | |
