Kansas | I’m using a 165 pto horsepower tractor with full power shift on this mixer. The hay has been ground with a tub grinder. Alfalfa, Sudan, and a little cracked corn. To get it to mix right I have to add water or snow. Is that normal?
My problem is it takes so much power to mix that I’m down to 2 mph getting anywhere, especially in this mud. Today it killed the tractor in the pasture before I even fed any of my 12,000 lb load. I have all of the disrupters out but have a full set of knives.
I’m mixing while I’m loading at about half throttle, and drive 1/2 mile to feed at full rpm.
Am I over mixing and things are starting to gum up? It goes in the bunk dry enough the wind blows it a plenty.
Today I opened the gate to releave some pressure before I restarted the pto and I see the feed is almost caked solid without any falling down.
I’m I suppose to leave the pto on all the time? It sure seems hard on things to restart it.
Do I need to make it wetter so it mixes like soup?
Thanks for your help.
