Maryland | This is our 3rd winter with an EQIP building, but we are in Maryland. Our local office was great to work with. It took 2-3 redesigns until the building was how we wanted it to work.
Previously our cow herd was in an outdated concrete barnyard with an old loafing shed. Our feeder cattle and fat steers were in dirt lots. With our weather it was hard on the cattle and hard on us. We have poor draining soil here, and freezes and thaws all winter long. Downside is that we use a lot of bedding. Manure is hauled on our row crop land.
We are a STO. Around 45 cows (half with calves) and 35 yearlings currently. Fat cattle are kept in another building. | |
