| you are correct on the actual cec not being that high. If the cec were run by displacement method it would be lower and that fact is backed up by the lower o.m. content of that sample as compared to the more normal sample. Calculated CEC is much higher due to the high concentration of calcium which is used to calculate the cec rather than to chemically determine it. That being said it makes little difference in the end, since it is the free calcium in the soil that is causing the problems-- tieing up P and most micronutrients. Curious if you find any remnants of shell--like snail shell-- in the soil? | |
