Gdu and solar radiation are two separate measurements. Seeds germinate and grow based on temperature. Current gdu is really a poor mans way of getting an avg on using a high temp and a low temp. In todays world gdu should be summarized by at least an hourly figure. Did we hit the low/high for a minute or 4 hours? It makes a difference. Corn is going to derive nearly all its energy and most of ir nutrition from the seed until around v3 when it hands operations over to the roots and leaves. I feel gdu should be accumulated hourly (or less) and by using soil temps at seed depth until around v2-3, then switch to air.

Uv signals the coleoptile to rupture and leaf out. Solar radiation makes carbohydrates. Temperature is kind of like the factories throttle. It takes both temperature and solar radiation to reach maturiry and have good yield.
