Urbana, OH | Please bare with me, it’s been a long day and I just switched to de-caff. The prior pictures were of the upper shaft after the the cover, clutch assembly, bell, and front cover were removed. These trannys were extremely strong from the factory, but the most common issue is a gap between a snap ring and a bearing. To remedy this you put a spacer between the snap ring and bearing which keeps pressure against the snap ring and doesn’t allow it to pop off. We bought a special spacer from Onion Farmer that doesn’t just fit against the snap ring, but actually cups over the snap ring. All in all it was not a terrible job. However, we had it easy because the cab was already off and the tranny was already removed when we bought the tractor. In a normal situation the cab would have to be removed or slid backwards and sat on the rear end. We worked on it in between waiting on parts so my rough time estimation would be ten hours. I have it from a very knowledgeable source that complete tear down and reassembly of the transmission is around forty hours of labor. Onion Farmer and a couple other guys are a wealth of knowledge on these tractors.
