Other than a two year period from summer of 86 until the drought of 88 did we not have much of an opportunity to market grain at very profitable prices. The doom of the 80's were based on other factors that wrecked farms. With today's structure of crop insurance the 80's wouldn't have been near as bad. Over leverage on land purchases is an entirely different topic than grain marketing opportunities. One probably has a reasonable argument that policy change created the land crisis.
