They are using manure and covercrops. If you have poorly drained soils and notil, the salt in commercial fertilizer is detrimental. Covercrops help alleviate that. If you do tillage it doesn’t matter as you are inducing oxygen into the soil. If you have naturally well drained soils it doesn’t seem to matter as much. Jmo from farming poorly drained soil.


You still misunderstand what the term 'salt' is in this case. Although I completely agree that manure can do a lot of things that commercial fertilizer cannot.
