EC SoDak | We keep pretty busy here and will run equipment 24/7 on tillage during the spring and fall, so an employee is needed. I figure if they are digging 45 ac/hr and paying the employee $16/hr, $2.5/ac isn’t too dang bad. Between weather and typical yield response, timeliness should make up that 2/3 bu cost. Same goes for using a harvest crew, getting 2-6 combines in (especially for beans) it doesn’t take long to pay for itself.
Ultimately, it’s the weather vs the acres that plays into this the most. I’d rather just make sure it’s done Incase of inclement weather.
For perspective, my daycare costs for the kids is close to $7/ac..... but my daycare bill for 2 kids costs more than my mortgage for a new house....
