East of Broken Bow | I always said, if you're gonna be a crook, swindle a bunch of people out of a whole lot of money. If you get 3 auto theft convictions, under the right circumstances, you are subject to a 3 strikes rule, where you could be in prison for life.
Swindle a bunch of people out of their life savings, and you have a good chance of escaping to Mexico, or wherever. Then, even IF you get caught, you spend 10 years in a 'club med' type of jail (some even have outdoor tennis courts).
I can think of a guy, who swindled people into bankruptcy, twice, while selling his 'business' for a few million dollars, who had to pay a fine, and agree to no longer participate in the type of swindling he had been doing.
Meanwhile, millions of honest people's dollars are gone, and there was more than one bankruptcy because of him.
But, had he stolen a car, worth maybe $5000 from each of the victims he pushed into bankruptcy, he'd still be in prison.
Explain that one to me. | |
