I did the same last summer. The 2x4 is correct. You may need to shim it somehow if it isn’t level or proper height. The tub I put in had styrofoam glued to the bottom for support. You do not want to remove it, it’s intended for support.
The one I installed was 60” long. I had to fit it into a 59” space. That took some shoehorning and creative carpentry.
