we have no scrape alleys, clean the whole thing out when we can. Usually can make it to clean out between turns, which is 75-120 days. A narrower barn is better. we have stocked as tight as 35sq ft, i prefer 50. The barn with bunks on both sides is 70' wide, the barn with bunks on 1 side is 50'. I like the 50' better, and would build future construction that way.

I do think the wider barns are cheaper per sq ft. I was always told that the closer you can get any structure to equal sided, it is the most efficient use of materials. In reality though, a guy has to be aware that cost per sq ft, and cost per head space do not always change the same when designing cattle buildings.
