Different situations for everybody.

Here, if we lose power for a few hours, it's not a big deal, unless it's during milking time. If it ran 24/7 during a power outage, 18 of those hours would be wasted.

Power goes out for more than a 2-3 hours about once a year here. It's very possible to not touch the pto generator for two years straight.

A stationary set is another engine to maintain. I happily put up with 10 minutes of hook-up hassle, because I know I'm putting a dependable tractor on the thing.

This is not to say I don't want a stationary set(wouldn't be auto start, though), but I can't justify it for the above reasons.
