NE Neb
Ogallala aquifer. The majority of it in Nebraska recharges through the sandhills. The parts of it to the south Kansas Oklahoma Texas doesn't recharge like it does in Nebraska. Irrigation is regulated in the shallow parts of the aquifer and the arid areas. Google the Sandhills or aquifer depth map. The deepest parts which is an enormous area has little irrigation. Still alot of canal irrigation on the 3 loup rivers. That water for the most part just comes out of the aquifer naturally. During 2012 the areas on the shallow parts were affected primarily because of how fast the water moves underground. The aquifer recharges to it normal depth in our area after the water has it's time to flow. 1975 the depth to water at my home farm was 180 feet. In march of 2013 after basically pumping 800 gpm from late June to mid September in 2012. Well was only shut down for pivot repairs and oil changes. Well feeds 2 pivots. We pulled my well for repairs and water was at 180 feet.
