North Central Illinois | Hay might work then if you can find a market. You might have enough extra growing season to get decent cover crop growth better grain crops that you can shorten the rotation. Might even be able to get away with no till soybeans into rye fairly regularly.
I'd be considering a rotation of Corn with rye drilled immediately after harvest, then no till soybeans into the rye in the spring. Drill something like hairy vetch after soybean harvest and go back to corn. Seed down hay as needed, but could go back to soybeans if the no till system works for you. | |
