Subject: Lower MS Delta Flood

Madison, Mississippi
500,000 acres..possibly 550,000 looking at backwater flooding for next several weeks as the Yazoo River at Vicksburg backs up from the Mississippi River high water.

It is a helpless feeling when the shy is clear and it has not rained in days but the water still backs up out of the creeks, sloughs, bayous and rivers to cover thousands of acres. One foot of water will cover a lot of ground when the base elevation only changes 5 or 6 feet in several miles.

That is over 800 square miles. Or from Vicksburg 45 mi North up Yazoo River to Yazoo City then due West 40 mi to the Bunge elevator on the MS River then South along the River back to Vicksburg

While some flooding will be 10-20 feet or more, most of it will be just a few feet to a few inches.

And the up river spring thaw , which s not even about to start is more water to deal with later.

Google Earth measurement is just a general outline
