My Uncle did that here ( Northeast Missouri). Basically a French drain. We always had problems with help running over risers or weeds growing in the areas that went unplanted around the riser... First couple worked pretty good.. But the problem we run into is the dirt will silt in over the gravel and they won’t drain... We are in the process of digging them all back ups do putting risers in.... We got nothing but duck ponds everywhere.. I really like the idea of the drive over style... We have terraces that have been built from the 80’s till present... Risers are for 6 row , 8 row and now 16 row planters...
