NE Iowa | I found this in an old Soil-Life post:
quote, soil life. ( From my experience, North East Indiana or whever one is dealing with clay soils high in Magnesium.
140-180 Bu. corn. soil Magnesium levels ranging from 10-18 % Base saturation takes about .8 units N. per Bu. with 60% + Calcium base saturation
140-180 Bu. corn soil Magnesium levels ranging from 18 to 26 % base saturation takes about 1 to 1.2 + unit N. per Bu.
140-180 Bu corn soil Magnesium levels ranging from 25 Plus % base saturation takes about 1.2 to 1.4 + N per Bu. This is figured on Good seasons with even moisture during the growing Period
for 180 Plus bu. and corn on corn you can add 10% to those numbers. But it takes a very good season and the Nitrogen has to be split applied. Best with 20% held for a lats side dress.
