Calves born in February have a higher average daily gain , the latter they are born the worse they gain up here.

February calves gain .2 pounds per day more than April calves if I remember right. And June calves are slow growers up here.

Have to look it up but CHAPS program say something like for every month latter born u lose 90 pounds in the fall.

This is all ND calves. Many thousands of calves to back this up.


Ok I'm back in. I find these numbers hard to believe. Doesn't it take energy to keep warm for both the cow and the calf? Weight per day of age should be in favor of the calf that doesn't have to try to stay warm.
