Is it because new corn gives better finish weights? Seems its always the lowest
Those pigs are conceived during cold weather (about now) so the breeding/farrowing rate is higher.
They are farrowed in warm weather so the farrowing room is warm dry and has lots of air moving = less preweaning mortality.
They are weaned and placed on feed during warm weather so the barn is warm dry and lots of air moving = less post wean mortality.
They’re never on a cold trailer until they’re fat.
Then about the time they really start to eat feed, they get new corn and kick it into overdrive.
Basically everything aligns for peak production which usually means the market will put the low in during that timeframe.
Regardless of hogs being inside, there still is and always will be a seasonal production pattern that results in a market seasonal.
