It has nothing to do with having 80-90% of there kill needs already wrapped up in contracts? If they had to compete against each other for 80-90% of there kill numbers each week wouldn't that be different?
They know weeks out that they have the cattle numbers they need. If price is too high they throttle back on kill numbers. If it's low then they ramp up.
