Subject: RE: Extending internet from house to shop

Scottsboro, AL
Direct burial of copper ethernet cable will likely result in lightning frying the equipment on both ends of the cable one day. (Yes, you can add lightning arresters on the cable, sometimes they even work…)

If you are going to do it, you might as well do it right.

Dig a trench.
Run conduit (1" min).
Run a pre-terminated fiber cable in the conduit.
Add a fiber-to-ethernet media converter on each end.
Run an ethernet cable from the media converter to the router in your house. (yellow ports)

-Not sure what all you need in your shop.-
--If you only need wireless.
Run an ethernet cable to a Ubiquiti Access Point through the POE injector.
--If you need more than wireless.
Add a switch.
Run an ethernet cable from the media converter to the switch in your shop.
Run an ethernet cable to each device.
Run an ethernet cable to a Ubiquiti Access Point through the POE injector.
